extreme pain

(2 discussions)

I have been treated by a neuroligist for 1 year now, and still my left foot has extreme pain in the metarsal area.
I have had MRI, x-rays and blood work, but we seem to be getting no where on relief.
I was referred to a university for eval, but they referred to it as small nerve damage that would not get any worse.
Sense then, the pain has increased tremendousely.
Pain is BURNING sensation, and sharp when stepped on certain ways.
Big toe is not involved, and I also am unable to spread my toes apart.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, I have a 2 yr old, and it is hard to keep up! The pain is unbearable somedays.
Thank you Karen

Have you seen a podiatrist? Without examining you I can’t guess. Has anyone suggested tarsal tunnel syndrome or reflex sympathetic dystrophy?

Yes, I have seen a Podiatrist who referred me to the Neuroligist I am on neurotin TID for year and a half. Pain has increased over past 3-4 wks. I have done some investingating myself, and RSD was one I looked at, but I do not have some symptoms like shiny skin and discoloration of the area. Looking at the foot you wouldnt know there was a problem. No swelling or redness. Foot does get a cramping sensation when toes are curled..this happens almost every time. Thank you for your help!
