Fell running and hit my sternum…

i was running, jumped up on a garden tub. my foot slipped and I fell onto the raised side of the tub directly on my sternum. it sounded like it cracked and now it hurts.is there any treatment for a broken sternum.is there any way to tell if it’s broken without being X-rayed?
