fluid around ankle

(2 discussions)

I recently began playing softball, after 14 years.
I wore my son’s cleats, which were about 1/2 size too big, for the first 5 or 6 games.
The last time I wore them my ankles got fluid around them and has gotten worse, even after I bought a pair of cleats to fit me.
I have used iced them almost every day for the last week or so, but they still have the fluid on them.
I even had a week off with no games and that didn’t help.
Could the way I was running have anything to do with it, or the cleats that were too big?
I am at a loss.

I injured my ankle playing basketball about 2 years ago. The way it happened was I was in mid-air and as I came down my ankle went in inwards, making the outside of my ankle touch the ground. From my ankle all the way to the end of my toes were bruised. The DR. said that they found a gap between my ankle bone and the bone underneath it about 1 inch.THe fluid is still there and I still Have flare ups of pain. What should be done?
