Fractured Fibula
(3 discussions)
I fractured my fibula about 3 weeks ago and have been in a cast since then.
There doesn’t seem to be any pain when I put pressure on the leg now, which is good. But what is bothering me is the numbness I feel in my toes and pretty significant pain in my calf area (mostly at night and first thing in the morning).
Is this pain a result of my calf muscle deteriorating due to lack of use? Thanks for your help.

Brian,Even though it is probably nothing serious, you do need to at least call your Orthopedist to tell him about your numbness. Please do so ASAP to make sure that the cast is not either too tight, or had started to break down in any area.

Do you know what might be causing the pain in my calf muscle? I’m seeing my orthopedist in a couple of days, so I’ll tell him about my toes when I see him but the pain from my calf is bothering me more.

If you are feeling numbness I would definitely speak to my doctor asap. However, I’m suffering from a broken tibia and fibia and i’ve felt some numbness in my toes… It did go away…but I spoke with my doctor about it. I keep wiggling and flexing my toes..my leg would swell in the cast and would cause my toes to feel a little numb….make sure you massage or flex your toes…
