fractured fibula

(2 discussions)

Hi,My daughter fell on a trampoline on the 4th of July and injured her ankle.
We kept her off of it and iced it.
We took her to her drs office today.
He sent her for an xray which showed a fractured fibula.
The earliest she can get an appt. w/an ortho dr is in 2 days. (the fracture will be 5 days old by then).
I just have a few general questions. Usually is a fractured fibula put in a cast?
If so for how long and when can she walk on it? Does it usually require surgery?
When is the earliest that she could actually play softball or basketball? Thank You

How old is your daughter? I’ve seen them put either in a walking boot or casted. Probably depends on the doc. Usually they are in the boot/cast for 6 weeks or more depending on severity of the break. Surgery also depends on severity.
