HAGLUNDS DEFORMITY

(6 discussions)

I have a Haglunds deformity on back of my left heel that is extremely painful. I have started wearing shoes a half size bigger, but I would like to know if there are any other treatments, other than surgical, for this. Any orthotics or braces that can be purchased for relief. Thanks

Some of my patient use the Silipos Achilles tendon pad and get some benefit but, this is a tough area to pad. Wearing clogs can help in some instances.

I believe I Have Haglunds Deformity on both feet. If surgery is required to remove both of these deformities, “Question”is do you do both feet at a time or just one at a time. What period of time is required to recoup. I am 78 years of age and these lumps are large and have just started to hurt. Thank you

I do not know enough about you or the degree of deformity you have to give a specific answer.Generally speaking, if surgery were the only recourse, then I most likely would tend toward doing one at a time.

I am not sure if my sons problem is called Haglunds Deformity, but what they want to do is go into the heel and remove the small bone to relieve the pain in the back of his heels. He went and had a MRI and Bone Scans and then had a Flouroscopic Injection in the left foot (most painful foot) to see if it relieved the pain. If it did this would tell the doctor that the procedure to remove the bone was the right thing to do. He also has a fracture in the left foot. My question is (Our doc. is out of town until next week) is this an outpatient surgery and how and what kind of recovery time are we talking. Our doctor said about 6 weeks and would do only 1 foot at a time. How far apart can we do the surgerys. We wanted to get both feet done for two reasons before Feb. Our insurance will recalculate (3,000) deductable Feb. 1 and would like to get them both done before that time so that we don’t have to pay that out twice and because he is on a traveling baseball team which starts up just before spring. We aren’t really even sure he will be healed before that time. Any info. on this surgery would be most helpful. We need to have all of our ducks in a row FIRST! Thanking you in advance. Mrs. K.
