Hammertoe surgery

I had hammertoe surgery about 7 months ago on my left big toe, 2nd toe, and 5th digit toe. The swelling has subsided in the 2nd and 5th digit toes, but the swelling remains in the big toe. My doctor said the swelling after surgery could last up to 1 year. Is this true? He also said that the swelling may never go down! Is there anything I can do to reduce the swelling? (i.e. steroid injection, keeping my foot elevated?) Will my swelling ever go down or will it stay pemanently? My doctor also said that ice at this point is useless… Please respond soon.

The swelling after foot surgery can lasat for a long time, but there are variables- age, health, procedure done, level of activity. Your surgeon would know this. Certainly you should have a discussion with your doctor about your concernsGood luck.
