Healing broken foot

(2 discussions)

Hello,
On October 7th I broke my foot.
My 2nd,3rd,4th metatarsal and middle cuneform (hope I spelled them right.) I am now in a funky flat shoe that looks like a sandle for two more days.
The doctor said I did not need to come back.
My ankle still swells up quite a bit and hurts if I walk on it too much.
My questions are: is the ankle swelling normal? when will I be able to fit in my regular shoes again? do you have any suggestions on what I should do about my ankle? Thanks for your help.

Without examining your foot or the xrays, I can’t give you an exact answer. After a fracture of the foot, it is common to have swelling for a period of time (several months). This can vary due to the patient’s age, health, circulation, activity etc. You might want to try wearing a light support sock for compression. As far as the shoe goes, your foot will let you know when it is ready.Hang in there, it will take more time.

I broke my 3rd & 4th metatarsals and it’s been six weeks and I still have considerable swelling and can’t fit any of my shoes. How can I get the swelling to go down and will I ever fit my regular shoes again?
