I am a 32 year old male (6ft, 167lbs) with pes cavus and plantar fasciitis — otherwise I’m in good health, but not physically active. Sometimes my heel pain during walking or standing is so severe that I just need to get off my feet. It ranges in intensity from a dull ache to a searing, stabbing, tearing pain (in both feet but slightly more in the left). I feel it most intensely when standing still. It originates from the posterior edge of the heel. I do ice my feet every night for about 15 min. When it’s especially bad, I take 400 mg Ibuprofen. I use Dr. Scholl’s “Tri-Comfort” insoles, which offer some support and cushioning, but by no means solve the problem. Do I really need to spring for $500 custom orthotics? Should I use heat as well as cold? It’s spring and I would love to go on walks with my wife again. If any kind soul could offer any advice on the matter, I would be tremendously appreciative. Thank you.
