Heel pain

(4 discussions)

Hello,
I have plantar fascitis since September 2002 , and have been out of running almost completly since February 2003, these 3 months seem more like 3 years. I have been swimming instead and have visited several doctors and have taken all types of Rx and theraphy like ultrasound, interferential, etc. I dont have any problems with pronation and my Rx all came out ok. Most of the doctors have recommended Baxters operation but the last one I visited told me it was not a good idea. He told me I should wait and do more stretching and apply ice and heat to the affected area , which Iam doing and has made me feel better , but not totally recover. I have only been doing more stretching and ice and heat for a couple of weeks. I also use the night boot to sleep, which keep your foot extended.
I still feel that if I ever recover I will probably fall down again because it has happened in the past. I would like to hear some advice on my case and any suggestions you might have with this type of injury Thanks

I too have been digonised with PF. It has been 6 months of no running. I work on my feet and walk on average 7 to 1o miles a day at work. I sleep with the boot also and wear a constint wrap putting upward pressure on my PF. This makes it feel better when I am walking at work but still I can tell that I am not even close to running again. Is there any one who had this that got better and is running the way that they use to? If so please tell me what you have done and how long it takes

I would also like to say that I have had injection therapy three times in a period of 2 + years and think that I probably should not do it again. I think I had a small rupture becasue of it and in relation to inserts I probably would not like to use them again, you see, I think that they were the ones that got me where I am becuase of using a ITBand insert . What is PT and Nsaids ? Thank you.

Iam sorry I meant go back or fall back on the recovery and I said fall down instead, my mistake, and yes Baxters surgery is what you talk about as a nerve release.

You may want to elaborate on Baxters operation? I’ve never heard of that procedure. Sounds like you have developed chronic plantar fasciitis. But why are you falling? This is not a sequelae of plantar fasciitis. You may want to consult with a neurologist for further evaluation. My treatment for PF consists of 6 months of conservative care including injection therapy, stretching, PT, NSAIDS and accommodation in the form of OTC inserts or orthotics. Surgically, I have found great success with the EPF procedure (a simple fascial release) in severe , chronic cases. You can visit our website at http://www.podassociates.net for more information. Good luck!
