Help badly needed re tight quads /hips

(6 discussions)

Hi,
of late i am having problems with my quads . my quad s become very heavy and fatiqued when put under duress which makes it very hard to turn and makes me feel as if i am unfit. The masseur says that the bands down the outside of my legs are very tight which they are as they are agonisingly sore when they get a deep rub.
Overall this problem is affecting my performance big time. Also i have noticed that the band that runs from my buttocks around to my hip flexors and dowwn along the front of my leg is very sore and tight.

Stretching doesnt deem to relievce it too much either.

Please help someone

Hi RF.Sorry to ask so many questions, but Im begining to get the picture.I think you should take some time off training and competing.I think you may have a complicated strain, not unusual.Sounds like your muscles have chronic fatigue. To begin with the fibres shorten, the muscle then becomes inefficient and burn up more fuel. The drainage system cant cope with the deluge and the excess waste lies in situ.It builds up until your muscles are covered in this accumulation of stodgey exhaust products. So time off, plus the right trearment.Best treatment is massage,a relaxing treatment from some-one who’ll treat you hollisticlly with some aromatherapy oils,to relax and clean out the muscles, bringing back their normal elasticity,so that you can stretch them out again without obstruction.Try a few treatments and take a few sauna’s.after that lot,if you dont feel “million dollars”I bet you’ll be half way there.Good luck Rob

Have taken no time off activity. Work as an accountant.(sitting for most of the day- prob wouldnt help either) Masseur is only treating it locally. No problems with back allignment. Havent had the feet checked tho. Maybe orthotics could be the answer. Masseur reckons that doing heavy squatting during the winter months would not have helped. As i said he reckons it weakened the gluts and caused all running activity to affect the quads and hamstrings.

It is just a mess. I have a bio mechanic specialist that i must go to but its a good few hours away and it will be a few weeks before i can get to him.

When the masseur rubs the it bands, it gives out a real deep pain. Hardly descibable but as i say it does give some relief

Hi RF.Has your masseur checked you out from head to toe?or has he been treating you locally only?Have you taken any time out from training or competition?Everything is “cause and effect”it may be that you are treating just the effect,Im not sure yet.I dont like to hear that you are in agony when you have a massage.Relaxation is the secret of all healing, and finding the cause and treating that as well as any effects. What work do you do?I really want to know if your feet have been checked out properly?and if your spine has been checked out for allignment. Talk to you later Rob

Cheers for reply mate. I was with a bio meachanics person before too and he felt that my gluts were weak and that my hamstrings and quads were taking all the pressure from the impact when running. I play rugby.

I was with the masseur/phsical therapist a goo dfew times. He works on the it band and the fromt of my hip. Tis agony but it gives me partial relief.

It does feel however that all the pressure is on my quads when running.

Ive had no previous injuries like you mentioned. Lower back feels abit tender tho. Had weak hamstrings when i was younger but they seem to be grand now.

If you need any more info just let me know. Thanks for taking the time to help

By the way in training we do a lot of Saq training. I.e ladder work. My masseur reckons this could be weakining the gluts as it isnt a natural movement and therefore causing duress on the quads and hip area
