Help, my heel is burning with pain!

Hello,
I am having a serious problem with my foot. I don’t currently have any health insurance, so I am coming here, hoping for an answer. I have had pf which has developed into heel spurs for about 10 years now. All the sudden I am feeling this terrible burning sensation in my heel. It’s more painful than it’s ever been before. The pain is close to the center of my right heel, but more towards the outer right part. Also, when I look at it in the mirror, in comparison to my other foot, it’s quite red and swollen. I have been icing it, stretching it, massaging it, and taking ibuprofen and vicodin. I am wondering a few things about my current situation. One, does this sound like a temporary thing, might I have done something to it to have inflamed it? Two, is there anything else I could do (with the exception of surgery, which I don’t want to have – I’ve had two on my left foot, and it hasn’t improved) that I’m not doing now? Thanks for any advice.

Burning pain can cover alot of ground. It can be nerve related- such as from the low back, a heel neuroma, or tarsal tunnel syndrome. The burning could also be related to the continued plantar fasciitis. Swelling and redness could also indicate a fracture. You really should see a podiatrist for further evaluation.
