Your symptoms also sound similar to mine. I have a tear in the labrum, the cartilage that surrounds the hip joint. I have pain in my groin, where my thigh meets my torso and lateral pain in the hip (like bursitis).

I don’t have any of the knee stuff, however. But I would see a hip specialist and get it checked out, especially if you are in a lot of pain.

    sunny,

    Take a look at this…

    http://www.amershamhealth.com/medcyclopaedia/Volume%20III%201/ILIOPSOAS%20BURSA.asp

Only pathologies listed, one thing not mentioned in that web site is the occurrence of overuse or traumatic injury to the iliopsoas bursa.

    sunny,

I found this on “swimmers knee”, and it matches the description of your knee problem:

    http://journal.ajsm.org/cgi/content/abstract/8/4/228

Do you think that your knee problem might have led to the problem with your hip? Faulty movement patterns can occur with a knee injury that affect the hip joint.

    sunny,

You stated that you may have some meniscus damage in the knee. Was your knee traumatically injured in the recent past? If so, how bad was the injury and how long ago did it happen.

You also said that you think the hip problem started with swimming. Do you remember a specific traumatic event while you were swimming?

What stress testing did the therapist do to conclude psoas trauma?

    Any other diagnostic procedures scheduled?

well nothing tramatic stated early october and yes i have same sided knee pain……seems to hurt on external rotation doent notice on internal……it is very tigth after i have been sitting for any lenght of time……tender and quite painful actually to palpated the area that is 2 inches below asis…….and now it is even sore on the outside of the hip ….like if i were to put my hands on my hip
i think swimming breast stroke started all this…which i am not doing anymore!

    sunny,

Was there a traumatic injury that caused the onset of the pain? If so, what?

Are you currently participating in regular physical activity that exacerbates the pain?

Was the pain a gradual onset over several days/weeks/months and if so, what activity were you performing when you noticed the symptoms the first time?

Any symptoms in the lower back or the knee or previous injury to either?

Pain with internal or external hip rotation, hip adduction or abduction, hip flexion or extension?

You say it is “tender to the touch”. Were you referring to the area you stated about 2 inches inferior to the ASIS?

Did your doctor/therapist suggest avoiding all weight bearing activity for the effected leg, as you stated “when i stand up it is very tight painful”?

What stress testing did the therapist do to conclude psoas trauma?

    Any other diagnostic procedures scheduled?

Lots of questions that could help find the culprit.

Educate your doctor with all of your symptoms and your suspicions.

    Hope you feel better soon!
