How long to recover from Achilles rupture?

I suffered a complete rupture of my Achilles tendon almost 11 weeks ago (playing racquetball) and have been in a plaster cast ever since – it comes off tomorrow. My consultant preferred not to operate – I am 41 and don’t smoke – but warns me there is a significant chance of re-rupture. What I’d like to know from anyone who’s had the same experience, is a)how long after the cast comes off before I’m fit to drive, and b)will I ever get my confidence back to play sport again?
