how to free up hands while using crutches for broken ankle
Dear Dr.
I am a 41 year old woman who recently broke an ankle from a fall on ice.
I will be in a cast for 8 to 12 weeks, and I am not allowed to bear any weight on the ankle either.
I am also the mother a 2 year old and have been having my parents, God bless them, taking care of both of us.
I have grasped the use of crutches, but I want to know how I can free up my hands to get something from one place to another, for example food from microwave to table.
Any suggestions would be very helpful.
Thank You.

This is a very tough situation and you have my sympathy. There is a device which is not cheap but it could be helpful called the Roll-a-bout. I can not post URL's due to spam controls I have on this site. You can do a Google search for this. You might consider an inexpensive cart e.g. Rubbermaid etc on wheels that you could manuver and roll easily.
