I hit my “funny bone”

(4 discussions)

I hit it real hard, on the left arm, accidentally. Since then, the arm/hand hasn’t felt the same. There’s a constant buzzing/current, tingling, a little numbness, and also when I touch that crevice area where the bone is supposed to be (where I hit it), it hurts like hell, and a shot of current/pain runs through my left arm. From this description, from your experience, could there be a bone hairline fracture, if not, what could be causing this constant buzzing and why does it still hurt when I touch it?
Is it normal for this feeling to last this long (it’s been 1 week exactly).
Thanks, Aisha.

The area of the elbow that you hit is the space the ulnar nerve runs through. It sounds like you damaged your ulnar nerve. Peripheral nerves (nerves outside the spinal cord) can repair themselves, but they take some time. I’m sure you have some swelling in there since you hit it pretty hard. Are you using ice? You could also kind of pushed the joint “out of place” during the hit causing the ulnar nerve to become “trapped”. If you can, go see a dr. or maybe even a chiropractor. Good luck

My left hand small and ring finger tingle and have gone numb, a friend informed me this may be indirectly the result of using computers for past 8 years while leaning on hard desk to work.My doctor recommended a nearve test foe wich I may have to waite several weeks/months, in the meantime he tested my condition by compressing the Ulnar nearve at it’s exposed joint at the elbow, after this examination and nerve compression I get severe pain from my elbow sepecialy if I turn my arm to certain positions – What shal I say to my doctor about this.

Hi An Tran, I am sorry I haven’t checked this forum at all! Your question was 3 years ago, goodness, I hope you’re alright now. Eventually my weird sensation went away. Incidentally, in January of this year, I fell and dislocated my right elbow, the very same one I think that I hit years ago. Let me know how you’re doing ?
