Illiosoas / Lower Abdominal on the Right Side

(3 discussions)

I have pain on my right side at the abdominal insertion point at the top of the pubic bone area just below where you would expect the appendixand have had it for several months. I am 40 and received this injury playing soccer. If I warm up well, I can get through a game, however the next day is bad news so I have stopped playing soccer until I can get over this. I have had ultasound and bone scan clearing me of hernia, hairline pelvis fracture and osteitis pubis. I have been referred to a specialist to rule out low grade appendicitis and then will be put on a course of cortisone injections.
In the mean time I will come back to this site to see what else is suggested to ease this situation.

Regards
Ross

I’m dealing with hip pain too – trochantic bursitis, tight IT band, and now groin pain. My PT says my sacroilial (sp ?) joints are not aligned and that the painful side is hypermobile. He has ordered me a belt to wear when I teach my step classes. I haven’t been teaching for 3 weeks because of the pain but subbed 3 times this last week and a half and am now in a great deal of pain !! I will request an MRI from my doc, but it’ll take months I’m sure.

How would I know if it was a rectus femorus tendon strain ? Sounds like it – inbetween a line from my hip bone to my pubic bone, below the appendix & I believe a little swelling (hard to tell but lying flat I’d swear that side is a little raised).

Doing the standard quadriceps stretch (heel to butt) pulls the sore area – even more so if I take that leg out to the side a bit. Any more info on this ? Good websites ? Thanks.

You might have a tear at the tendon of rectus abdominus, which attaches at the top of the pubic bone. In the middle of the rectus runs the linea alba, which is suppose to be a weaklayer of tissue, we were told not to massage directly over the area for fear of tearing it. I am not sure if it runs all the way down to the pubis. You may try finding a massage therapist that can get rid of trigger points in the area that might be causing the pain or at least contributing to it, and then they might do some frictioning of the tendon in case of tears that have formed there.
