jammed pinky
(2 discussions)
I need help with a question. I jammed my pinky playing Volley Ball two weeks ago. There is swelling every now and then. I have iced it. It hurts a little every now and then. The problem is the end joint of the small finger cannot straighten up unless I mechanically push it with the other hand. I can bend the finger down and even play the Piano. Chopin! The problem is that it seems to not be healing. What can I do to let it fix itself?Immobilize it on the straight position?Immobilize it with a little bendContinue moving it?Exercise it a lot?ArturoOffice: (303) 922-2289

Sounds like a condition called a “Mallet Finger”. You need to see an orthopedist, who will fit you with a special finger splint, which you will need to wear for several weeks. I hope this helps.

Please advice me on fracture to the fifth metacarpal top bone on the right hand. Playing volleyball is not how I injured my finger but I play every thursday which is tommorrow and I have my little finger strapped to the finger next to it, it hurts a little bit and I want to know if its cool or not to play volleyball as long as I look out for the finger and work around it instead of hitting it.
