jones fracture

(5 discussions)

I fractured my foot in august 2013.
I am still trying to get my jones fractured healed.
I have rebroke it 3 times.
The fracture was never healed completly before I was allowed to walk on it.
I have had four surgeries, 1st surgery put in screw.
2nd to remove screw because screw not in right and hurt.
3rd put new screw in fracture rebroke with screw in.
4th to remove screw and put in bone graft from hip. .
Last doctor was ortho and said the bone is soft now. What are my chances of ever getting this fracture to heal?

I don’t see the harm in asking. It certainly would require the doctor’s office to contact your insurance company and do a bit of work though. When I want one for my patient’s I find the reps are very agreeable to come to the office and gather the information. It is a bit of a hassle, but (thankfully) I don’t use many probably 1-2 a year on average.
You should do a Google search for Bone stimulator to get more information.
    Good luck.

At this point, has your doctor suggested adding a bone stimulator?

        Hello Lisa,
I broke my right 5th metatarsal in January. It has taken me three doctors to get one that seemed to be helpful. The other two did not seem to be sure about what to do, one saying to walk on it, and develop scar tissue, the other saying not to walk on it. The third is an orthopedic surgeon that specializes in ankles and feet. He has me in a moon-boot and I am waiting. The fellow that fitted me with the boot told me that there are two places that you really want to avoid surgery, and they are low back and feet. I am praying and meditating that my foot will heal well on its own. I am 66 tall and really need to have a strong heal for my foot; also I am a sculptor and work on my feet..so I am really a bit scared about this injury. The third doc. Said that sometimes the screw had to be taken out, this was the firs time I ever had any doctor say this. He seems to feel that it is best if it heals on its own, but also said that they can re-break too if not careful. If there is any helpful information you have for me it would be much appreciated.
        Sincerely, Don C Andrade

no he has not. What is a bone stimulator and how is it used? I don’t go back to him for another month and then he said I will be able to put a little weight on the foot. do I need to contact him before then about the bone stimulator?
