Knee – Any ideas?
Hi,
My knee started hurting today. I didn’t injure it, I have been sat down all day!
I have tried looking it up and the nearest I can get to the symptoms is Jumpers Knee. What I think is the tendon that comes out of the bottom of my knee cap is swollen, and is mildly tender, it’s more that it feels very odd than the pain is that bad. (But is seems to be getting worse quite quickly) If I straighten my knee it feels like my knee cap is going to move, almost dislocate. And it is painful when I bend it as far as it will go. I can’t kneel on it, it feels like there is a swollen ring around the bottom of the knee cap when I try and put my weight on it. And it is tender if I push into and rub the soft area just below my knee cap.
I often get pain under the bottom of my knee cap, but slightly different from this. When it happens I get VERY sharp pain under the bottom of my knee cap when I put weight on my leg and my knee is bent. Whenever this happens I know that I have to rest it with my leg dead straight. Sometimes in a few hours it will be ok, usually by the next day once I’ve slept with it straight it’s fine again. I never know what causes it as it isn’t always after exercise that I get this. It just decides to do it!!!
Do you think what I’m feeling now is the same thing? This time it doesn’t hurt at all to weight bear on it bent!
My Gut reaction is to keep it elevated and straight. But I am also worried it might be swelling from under activity! Being Christmas I have been sat in a chair watching telly all day, I don’t usually do that, and have now had over a week off training. Again unheard of! (Apart from when other injuries stop me!)
Any ideas whether I should use it, or rest it to help it????????
Any thoughts welcome.
Thanks,
Sarah.
