Knee/Hamstring/Tendonitis/Back? What is the problem?

I’ve been down about 11 months now and don’t know what to do next.
I was finishing up a 22 mile run last December when my left leg started hurting and would not respond. I stretched it out and finished up the last half mile. I was moving way to fast on this run, under 7 minute miles.

The next day, my leg would not bend all of the way out. The pain seemed to be coming out of the back of the knee/very low hamstring. Sort of like a pulling right in the bend of the knee.
I really messed up after this running a marathon and a few months later doing some track racing (800m-3200m).

Over time the pain seemed to be much more of a hamstring pain. I did about 2, 6 week physical therapy sessions, with no progress.

I looked into the possibility of a back/nerve problem, and discovered I did have some developing back problems, but most likely not enough to be causing my problems. The doctor said it could be irritating the nerve some, but not pinching it or anything.

Now it has gone back very low in the hamstring, and sometimes feels like strings pulling in the back of the knee.

Does the idea of strings pulling in the back of the knee tell anyone anything? Has anyone else had anything like this?

Most importantly is there anything else I can do? Is there any thing I can ask a doctor do do to find out once and for all where the problem is? I’m sick of them guessing this or that, every doctor has had a different diagnosis.

Any help/direction would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Since you say you are having a pulling sensation, It would seem that you have some sort of shortening of the hams. since you run so much the stress was probably too much. Try some triggerpoint therapy massage with assisted tense relax stretches, I would guess that it would take some time to get the muscles to relax.
