L5/S1 Spondylo with pain down right hip and leg

(3 discussions)

I was diagnosed in 1995 with a grade 1 l5/s1 spondylolythesis. No real pain in back for last few years. Recently in last 6 months have had almost constant pain in right hip/buttock which radiates down my right leg and stopping behind the knee. Also there is some clicking of the hip as i walk. I cannot sit more than 20 minutes at one time. Only relief i get is from lots of exercise (walking, swimming, stretches).
Xrays, and 2 MRI scans didn’t show anything of worth.
My doctor now wants to start injecting Cortisone into my lower back and right hamstring region.
Any advise or similar cases would be appreciated. Thankyou

cortisone is a pretty aggressive measure,
have you tried chiro or physio yet? that would be a better place to start, keeping in mind that your pain isnt necessarily comming from your spondy, grade one isnt very bad, and doesnt correlate very much with pain levels, try some therapy befor you go ahead on injections, or at least see a sport doc. the cortisone can have deleterious effects esp. in muscles!

    G’day,
I have a herniated l4-5 disc which while it gives me no back pain iot has made the skin of my left foot so sensitive to touch I cannott wear a sock on that foot .I can fully sympathise with you as I also have had disc probs before I had a cortisone needle to the disc which seemed to aid its recovery somewhat.Just make sure you do not allow them to give you a Disco-gram under any circumstances. They give you a local then prod the sciatic nerve with a needle trying to replicate the pain this caused me agony for 3-4 weeks .
Good luck cobber Ramjet(If u want to email me
