Lateral Knee Ligament injury – experiences and advice

I have the above injury, and was wondering if anyone has had, or still does have, the same.

History:

I did it in January playing football and training for a marathon. Then thinking it was just a knock (bruise) carried on with it. Pain got worse after a while so gave it a months complete rest, until I did the marathon. I havent trained since and am doing rehab in the form of physio and Glucosamine supplements.

Couple of questions:

1) How long should I expect the rehab to take before I can run and play football again? (I’ve been doing physio for a month, and rest for 1.5 months).

2) The injury caused pain in the middle of my knee below the knee cap, above the shin when running. This is probably to compensate for the original injury, but what muscle have I hurt?

3) Should I expect to fully recover? I made the knee 10 times worse by completing the marathon with the knackered knee, but will it cause permanent damage?

Any advice or views welcome!

Cheers,

Chris
