Left Hip Pain that won't stop

(2 discussions)

Dear Forum, I am a college student who runs track. In late August I was doing an ab-exercise where you kick your legs up high. I felt a “pop” feeling in my left hip. I tried running but I immediately knew the pain wouldn’t go away. Ever since,I’ve rested and the pain just keeps getting worse and will not go away. I visited my orthopedic doctor in October and he thought it was a hip flexor strain and gave me anti-inflammatories and said I could swim. That made things worse and one week later, the pain was so bad I checked myself into the ER and they just said rest and prescribed painkillers. My orthopedic doctor gave me a cortisone injection and it hasn’t helped at all. It’s been over 2 months and I just feel like my left hip hasn’t gotten any better. It hurts to walk, sleep, stand, sit in a chair, cough, and I feel like the pain is just always hanging around even when I’m doing nothing. I’m trying to get an MRI soon, but I’ve just been disappointed with the doctors visits and the diagnosis because every visit they think it’s something different. I’ve gotten 2 X-rays for a stress fracture and they showed up negative. I just don’t know what to do anymore because I just can’t make the pain go away. Painkillers don’t even work and Ice is only temporary. It hurts in flexion, extension, abduction, and adduction. The pain hurts so much I can’t even focus in the classroom. I just have no idea what else to do and I’m losing confidence in the treatment process. I’m 19 years old and I’m limping around like an old man. The docs say “you will be fine and get better” but I really don’t know what to think anymore because this pain just keeps getting worse and worse and is always around no matter what.

Have you been checked for a hernia? It can often feel like it’s in the hip.

I’m very sorry to hear about your ordeal.
I understand fully what it’s like to tell your doctors that something’s wrong and they look at you with that dismissive look about them. It’s frustrating and painful and you feel like your life is on hold. Stick with it or change doctors…..try a Chiropractor, don’t give up on your options.

    I hope you recover soon.
