lower / mid abdominal pain, left side

(13 discussions)

I’ve been experiencing mild to severe pain in the lower left side above the hip but below the rib cage.
It is generally toward the rear (back) but seems to move to the front occasionally.
This has lasted EVERY DAY for over 2 months.
The pain actually feels like someone has a hold of me inside but occasionally pulls or twists slightly.
When the pain becomes intense, I pass gas to relieve.
In the morning this takes about 10 minutes. Otherwise, bowel movements are nearly normal.I’ve had a colonoscopy (clear) and full dye induced Catscan (negative).
The gastrointerologist believes it is musculature in nature. One other issue, I make kidney stones. Lots of them. But this pain is lower and near constant but not like a kidney stone (if there was one in my ureter for this long, I’d be stark raving mad by now).Any ideas?

Itoo have severe pain in left and now radiates to my back, I suspect it has to do with nerves. Going to a neurologist today. Had two nerve blocks with no success. hope I find out what is wrong with me, have pain for one year.

get a CT of your abdominal and pelvic region. I had Left lower quadrant pain, no fever and was diagnosed with mild diverticulitis at the ER. Upon followup with my doc she said it was an overead and she said it was musculature. I’ve had ibs for years which she knew about still she didn’t believe I had it. get a colonoscopy to be safe, avoid caffeine, dairy, see if that helps. Stress can aggravate it.

I recently starting having lower left side pain from the left side of my sturnum following my first lower left rib down to my left side. at my left side, the pain is real bad and it all started a week and a half ago after I did a two week stretch of real heavy lifting in my job. I am a heating and air conditioning service tech and changed out two roof top compressors in that time frame and roped all my equipment up through the roof hatch about 30 feet high and also lowered all my equipment and the compressors which weigh about 100 pounds. I am in so much pain and it feels like my gut on my left side is vibrating and pulsing and the pain feels like my muscles are separated from my first lower rib. Can any one please tell me what this is and what the fix is. I had a normal ct scan and blood test and urine test. I am scheduled for a ultrasound on monday. I think it is more prominent when stand, walking, and lifting then if I am laying down. I ended up on morphine in the ER one week ago with stabbing pain it sent me to the floor. Please email me with any answers that I can tell my doctor. This all started after two weeks of real hard and heavy work and lifting with my arms out in front of me to get the equipment over the edge of the roof hatch opening on the roof.

For the past two years I have been having pain on the left of my mid torso. Generally, it hurts at the slightest touch. Lately I’ve been getting the pain even without touching the area, especially when I bend over. I do not have regular bowel habits unless I eat lots and lots of vegies and bran. Generally I need to use laxatives. Can you advise?

My pain is in the lower left side below navel to left hip bone and radiates around side to spine in back also I have a constant feeling of a full bladder which it is not full.-this happened sporadically about 2 or 3 days apart last one before tonight was 6 days ago. Help the pain is so severe and lasts about half hour to an hour -any ideas? I’ve had an ultra sound and didn’t come up with anything and they found a stone in my gall bladder that the dr. thinks this has nothing to do with it. I have some diverticulitis-could that cause it? Should I have a cat scan-I am going to the ob gyn that I have seen for 32 years-I’m 61 year old female what kind of dr. should I see?

I too have had this paine for a few mths, Its on lower left side of spine like hip area but very deep. I have been diagonosed with fibromyalgia, so maybe that has something to do with it, ugh!going to regular Dr to make sure. Web Md never has anything when I put in lower left pain of back they think its the back., but does not feel like its coming from the back, maybe nerves like someone else mentioned, if anyone has more info please let me know TY

I have been suffering with this left pain for about 4 years. It comes and goes, starts as a pulling sensation that progressively gets worse and spreads across my abdomen causing major bloating..only time, pain killers and heating pad seem to releive it…thought it had something to do with my cycle and maybe endometriosis but my doctor stopped my cycle for 3 months and ultrasound shows no sign of this being gynocological…went to an urologist and maybe it could be cystitis but I don’t think so..not having the regular symptoms of that… I am scheduled for lap surgery to try to see if the surgeon sees any scar tissue or whatever could be causing this pain. Just did some other research on hernias and I think that maybe this is the issue. A incisional hernia is what I think it is being I had lap surgery many years ago. I am going to call my surgeon tomorrow to see if he has experience with this in case the surgery uncovers this.

as long as there is no blood in the urine or bowel, it should rule out tumors or anything serious. Fever indicates infection. If all are not present, it could be IBS, diverticulitis or other causes. Acupuncture helped me.
