mallet finger guitar prognosis
(2 discussions)
Yesterday I ruptured the extensor tendon on the long finger of my left hand resulting in “mallet finger”.
What treatment is most likely to preserve my ability to play guitar?
I am right handed, so the left hand holds the stings on individual frets.
The left ring finger needs maximum flexion to allow holding a single string down on a fret while arching over the other strings, but also benefits from maximum extension to hold multiple strings. Thanks!Karl

Yike. I am in the same boat. Knowledge of theraputic exercises you may have found would sure be helpful. I got sliced, diced and then had a coat hanger through my finger for about 8 weeks. It destroyed my Vast Fiscal Empire and now I am too tapped out to be able to hire a PT.Hope your finger works these days and you are able to fly on the scales again. That is basically what I am doing for therapy. Lame.Anyhow, good luck pard.
