MCL Strain

Hello-
I recently strained my medial cruciate ligament on my right knee while wakeboarding. I am fairly certain that there is some medial meniscus damage as well, however I have not had an MRI. The injury happened 1 week ago and the pain has begun to subside, along with the swelling. However, I am still having trouble walking without crutches. I can bend my knee if I do so slowly and deliberately but cannot do so during walking. Can anyone offer any advice regarding a recovery timetable and any useful things I might do to help the recovery? Also, how long should I give this before I seek additional medical treatment (surgery, etc)? This is the first time I have ever injured my knee so it is a little frustrating because I am sure it will be with me for the rest of my active life! Thanks.
