metatarsal fracture

(2 discussions)

Hi,
I fractured the 3rd and 4th metatarsals of my left foot in a twisting fall. I was in a fiberglass cast for about 4 weeks, then it was removed this past Thursday (4 days ago) and the doctor said I should start walking as much as possible. It is still very swollen, to the point that I can only wear a loose sandal, and I am having an increasingly hard time putting my weight on it. It has gotten to the point that I am using one of my crutches now because it hurts too much to bear full weight. I’m thinking I should call the doctor back – is this part of the normal healing process?
thanks,Kathy

By all means call the doctor and if necessary have it re-x-rayed.

Thanks for your advice. I saw my doctor this afternoon, and after another x-ray and examination he decided to re-cast it for another 2 or 3 weeks.
