Mole Removed

(2 discussions)

Hello. I had a large mole removed on the back of my right shoulder in January 2013, and now I have a HUGE scar (bigger than my mole was) on my back. It’s really embarrassing, it looks like a spider! Is there ANYTHING I can do to get it to go away, or make it semi normal at all?

: Kayla,: Which kind of specialist did the removal; was it a Dermatologist? Have you returned to let that doctor see it lately, and, if so, did he offer any options? How about seeing a Plastic Surgeon? If the scar is raised, it would be something called a "Keloid", and these keloids usually respond well to local injections of a steroid (such as Kenalog) into the raised aspects of the scar. Please check back with your doctor and see if you have a keloid; if so, ask about getting an intra-lesional steroid injection, and let us know what he says. Also, there are some Rx creams which help to reduce scars, as well as some new laser treatments. Dermatologists and Plastic Surgeons are the specialists to see about these options. Please let us know how you make out, and good luck! How long ago was the excision? I had a bunch of moles taken off my back and it took months for the scars to reduce. Some were cut off and some were frozen off. You can hardly see them anymore. And I had some big scars at the start. But I agree with Scott, if it's not gone in a few months a plastic surgeon would be a good route to go. Mya
