MRI findings – please explain/elaborate

(5 discussions)

MRI LUMBAR SPINEFINDINGS:There is heterogeneity of marrow pattern throughout whole lumbar spine….There is no evidence of pathologic fracture.Lumbar alignment is normal. There is diffuse disc desiccation. The conus medullaris terminates in normal anatomical position. There is no evidence of focal disc herniation, significant or foraminal stenosis.MRI THORACIC SPINEFINDINGS:Evaluation of the thoracic spine demonstrates heterogeneity of marrow pattern to a a lsser degree than that seen in the lumbar spine. No evidence of pathologic fracture. The thoracic spinal cord is normal in size and in signal intensity.I’ve had a bone marrow biopsy & aspiration done since….& it came back normal thankfully…..I’ve had bone density scans done & bone scans done…..also normal thankfully…. Can you please explain what desiccation, conus medullaris, foraminal stenosis?????Also, what is meant by marrow signal??Appreciate the interpretation…..

: :L5-S1 level: There is evidence of disc desiccationwith minial loss of disc height.: : There absence of end plate marrow edema.: : There is a small sized left paracentral, broad based protruded herniation indenting the thecal sac without compromising the exiting nerve roots.: : There is absence of migrated fragments.Facets appears intact.: :There is absence of lateral recess stenosis.: :The remainder of the disc appear normalCan you please explain what is disc desiccation and mild exaggeration of the normal lumbar lordosis?: : Also, what support can be use to prevent further damage to this disc(eg.type of support chair while at desk work): : Appreciate the interpretation…..

I’ve read up on the disk desiccation, but have no clue what the central focal protrusion means…if you could help I would greatly appreciate it!!!

Impression:1. Status post left L4-5 heilaminectomy with no definite recurrent disc. Findings at L5-Sl more likely secondary to granulation tissue given echancement postcontrast2. Facet degenerative changes most notable at L1-2 and L5-s1Impressions:1. Extensive degenerative disc disease throughout the thoracic spine as described.2. Minimal anterior wedging of T6 probably old
