Name says it all

I was on my knees scouping dirt out of a hole when I experienced a pain in my left calf. I’ve been icing it down , wrapping with Ace Bandage, & elevating leg. Its painful but I can walk, have most problems walking up/down stairs. The lower leg is swollen and slightly colored which seems like the classic example of a Gastrocnemius
Muscle Tear. I’d like to know how long it takes for the healing process to take place ? and when should I be concerned enough to go to a doctor. According to some info on this type of injury after 72 hrs when injury occurred hot water & massage should be included in the therapy. I’m at that stage now. Also , Is it possible to have an Achiles Tendon tear & still walk around ? Any help would be appreciated

Yes, it is possible to walk on a partially torn acchiles tendon. It depends on the severity of your strain (grade 1, 2, and 3, with 3 being a complete rupture). If you had a complete rupture, you would not be able to walk. I suffered a grade 2 strain and was unable to walk at all. I recommend seeing an orthopedist to make a diagnosis. Best of luck.
