Dear Shade, A degenerative disc is a condition that many people have and deal with every day. A lot of people have this type of condition, and don’t even know it. The discs function as shock absorbers for the spine. The contribute a part of the overall height of the spine, as well as prevent your bony vertebra from touching each other. Sometimes these discs can lose their ability to do their job. They may lose their height. Degenerative discs are a progressive type of disorder, they will continue to degenerate without proper care. Weight control, exercise and Chiropractic care are essential to disc health. The alternative is surgery and arthritis, so take care of your discs. Thanks for the question.

I have been told that I had a pinched nerve in my neck. It started in March of this year and has not been getting any better. I have been given anti-inflamatories and am currently visiting a physothrapist once a week. I willl describe the way I feel right now with the hopes that maybe you can shed some light on what I have. My neck and shoulders (especially the left shoulder) are really tight, I have like a tight ball on the top of my left shoulder, which when I touch hurts near my heart. Also, my gland on the left side swells and I feel tired and depressed becuase of the fact it is not getting better. The other feeling is pain in my shoulder blades. I do bike and swim nearly every day.Can you help?? I don’t want to take too much anti-inflamatories becuase they make me sleepy.

My neck and shoulder x-ray shows arthritis in the left shoulder and a degenerated disk in my neck. I am now scheduled for an MRI at the end of this week. Can you send me any information about “degenerated disk”? Thank you,Mrs. Norma Keltner
