Neck & Left arm pain, numb & tingling fingers – OUCH!

(7 discussions)

Hi,If there are any experts or similarly afflicted souls out there, would be grateful for your advice.
This started about 5-6 days ago, and the severe discomfort is stealing all my sleep! No injury or other distinct cause that I’m aware of.
Strange how it gets worse after I ‘relax’ ?
I’m pretty sure it’s not cardiovascular – well, sincerely hope not !Many thanks / David

Hello, I have similar problems on the left side of my shoulder blade neck and left chest area. Never under estimate a condition that affects your left side like you mentioned. My advice to you is to get your heart/arteries checked to rule out anything serious. I personally did this myself and felt alot better I did it. I would strongly reccomend this if you possibly can. I had a caratoid scan of my neck arteries as well as a stress test and ekg which came out negative. Good Luck

Same exact thing on my right side…the numbness in fingers is the scary part….if I massage my forarm near my elbow it helps my back shoulder blade and hand feel better….think it is pinched nerve…

I have an almost identical problem on my left side. After spending a week bodysurfing in some monster tubes in Mexico, I developed a pain emanating from a very tight knot next to my shoulder blade. My sister, who is a massage therapist, was amazed at how hard and unresponsive to massage it was. I had it massaged several times and it finally disappeared, only to be replaced by tingling and numbness in my thumb, index and middle finger, sometimes spreading up my arm to my shoulder. This occurs especially when I extend my arm forward which, as a semi-professional billiard player, I do quite frequently. After returning to Switzerland, I visited a chiropractor who, after taking x-rays of my neck, said that it was caused by damage to my spine (C6,C7) incurred 25 years prior in a whiplash accident. Unfortunately, his treatment did nothing to alleviate the numbness. on the contrary, I started feeling pain below the area he was treating. I stopped the treatment and am now looking for other avenues of treatment. any suggestions or new developments in your problem?

Yes…as I read this list of symtoms… I have all of them. Female..Age 52…however had heart attack ten yrs ago. (myocarial infoction. have been on several medications since including atenolol, lipitor and several anti depressants for episodes of major depression. In addition, I am sorry to say I am still a smoker.
Recently my doctor increased atenolol from 50 to 100 mg.Appears that I meet all the criteria for another attack.

    Hi there,
I have no clue if this is indeed the same issue, but recently (after a lot of physical stress on my body due to two major re-locations in the States) I started having numb left arm which extended to left fingers as tingling and numbness. After surfing for hours I cam across this URL if u check out member–IMTNORM’s question and foowup response, you will see he was able to fix it. Also some other member–dodop sugested lots of ice compress and anti-inflammatory treatments.
I hope this helps. Either way I am going to set-up an appointment with a neuro-surgeon and get this EMG thing done. Let’s see what the results will be…
    Sincerely, Russ

I have the exact same symptoms. I am a 38 year old female and I am over weight. I am a very active working mother of 2 toddlers. Pain in my left shoulder blade came on suddenly. It radiated down my arm and into my fingers (especialy my index). I went to a chiroprator who said it was tight musce=les squeezing my nerves. After several treatments muscles seemed to losten up and pain left but waas replaced with tingleing and spasms. Index fingers now has a burning sensation that never goes away. I do not want to go down the road of surgery.

i was massaging a friends neck and he said he had a strange pain and tingle go down his left arm. Could this be a sign of a corodid artery?
