Neuropathy

I have been diagnosed with mononeuropathy, involving the peroneal nerves of both legs. I have a very distinct limp of the left leg only. I have been told this is caused by running, don’t run! Is there anyone out there who has ever heard of this syndrome. I do not have anterior compartment syndrome. I do not have pain. I cannot control my left leg. This started gradually about 10 years ago. I went from sub 7 min. miles to sub 11 min. miles (33 min 8K to 48 min 8K). I am now 58 years old, female and in excellent condition.
Help! I want to run.
