Nike vs Asics HELP

(3 discussions)

I started using Nike Pegasus then switched to Asics Kayano. Soon I started having Runner’s Knee. I have since gone back to the Nike and things got better.

Do you think it was really the shoes??

Cheers

Thanks to both of you for the replies. They really helped!
And they come at a great time, just yesterday I got into the NYC Marathon lottery (my first marathin ever!).

    Have a great run!

I always used Nikes, then decided to purchase a pair of more specific running shoes as my training increased. I soon found problems as you have.

What I have found is that you must easy down on the training when you buy new shoes. This isn’t as much to run the new shoes in as it is to run you into the new shoes. No two shoes are the same and the mechanical effect will be felt if you continue with your current training intensity straight away.

Nevertheless, I suggest you closely look at the design of your current Nikes compared to the Asics and ensure that their purpose is similar.

I have always overpronated (more severly on the left than right) but when I started running, I used neutral shoes. The minute I tried out some motion control shoes, things went wrong. Hence, I think that as I have always overpronated, my body is geared to that and changing things is not possible. The moral here is that your body knows what is best and tells you so. If your new shoes are of a different design type, whether that academically is more suitable or not, it might not be the right choice.

    Best of luck.
