Not sure if my rotator cuff is injured

(2 discussions)

Hi I have to do a lot of weight lifting to keep my strength up for rugby. The last 2 weeks i noticed that my shoulder strength on my right arm had weakened. Usually my right is stronger than my left. It doesn’t feel like the actual deltoid muscle is weak. I think it might be something wrong with my shoulder joint or rotator cuff, but I experience no soreness or pain what so ever. Also, when I rotate my arm it makes 1-2 clicking noises. Anyone have any idea of what this could be?

Also stay away from overhead exercises, including lat-pulldowns. Eventually you may be able to do those. Also once you get stronger and there is more stability in the shoulders you may be able to do overhead shoulder exercises. But don’t exceed 25lbs. you can increase the intensity by adding more reps and sets. The potential to reinjure or further injure your shoulder vastly outweighs any potential gains you can make.

It sounds like it may be a rotator cuff. I would lay off the weights until you see a doctor, and let him determine if there is a tear. I went through therapy for my throwing shoulder and it made a huge difference. I would also tell you to cease overhead exercises for a while, including lat-pulldowns. If your doctor decides you do need therapy, my advice would be to contniue the exercises prescibed to you as part of your gym routine. I still do mine and my RC injury was about two years ago.
