numbness– lower leg & foot

(17 discussions)

-HiI have numbness on the side of my lower left leg and the top of my left foot.
I’m 16 years old and play tennis, softball, and bowling.
I noticed this numb-like sensation two days ago when I came home from playing an intense hour of tennis and then standing for about an hour and a half talking to my coach.
That night when I went to scratched the side of my lower left leg I could not feel it very well. It felt as if it were asleep, but it didn’t tingle or hurt. Also, about a week and a half earlier I had been working on a project and was on my knees on top of a wooden board for a long period of time.
My mom thinks I’m making a big deal about nothing, but I don’t want my leg to be numb forever! Please, any advice that could be given to me will be helpful. -thanks

My husband has lung cancer, and is being treated, but just a couple of days ago, his right lower leg (calf and foot) had gone numb on him causing him to drag is right leg as he tries to get around with a cane. His coordination has also gotten worse, (example..spilling his food, water, or just knocking things over). What could be causing this?

help! I had a lapidus procedure (extensive bunion surgery) 2 weeks ago. After surgery I experienced some sharp pain directly below my knee, medially. this has increased to numbness and swelling, initially on the medially half, now olso involving the laterala aspect. If one were to look at a nerve map, it appears to be the sensory pathway of L-5, now L-44 also, but only involving the lower half of the knee cap, to about 4 inches below the knee. I have seen the MD, doppler studies were neg for clots. No redness or swelling. Certain extension movements of leg cause brief severe pain shooting down from just below the knee to the middle of ant lower leg. have stopped using the Roll-A-Bout and have been icing with no improvment of symptoms. Any ideas…have any physical therapists seen this sort of thing after foot surgery???? Please help

you all need to see a ortho doctor -sounds like some type of lumbar disc associated problem which can be treated. Person with cancer-not sure, but tell your doctor. Person who plays softball – if falling, this is critical you get treatment soon. Numbness typically suggests a nerve being pinched in the back and yes, it can go down into shin and foot. All of you see an orthopedist- this can be treated.

I am a 67 year old female. I am an avid exerciser, working out 7 days a week for approximately 1 hour. I first noticed that my left foot was very cold, particularly at night and started wearing socks to bed. About 3 weeks ago while shaving my legs I couldn’t feel the side of my lower left leg. As I examined this malady further I became aware that the top of my left foot was also numb. Any information you can give me would be very helpful. My mother had polymyocitis but on investigating that condition, I don’t think my problem is related. Thank you

I had a stroke in 3 years ago, following which I was advised regular medication for b.p., blood thinning, and cholesterol. I was banned from swimming, but I ignored. A year ago during a spritual gather, I felt numbness on my left cheek and losing control. I had a lightning in my head and I fell off. Neuro surgeon said the old scar due to stroke 3 years ago triggered a seizure. Now I am taking eptoin 100 3 times daily until december 2021. Will the neuro surgeon really stop eptoin 100? I have not experienced any more seizure after last year. At times I do not feel good while going out due to fear of falling down. I do some exercises at home. I have totally withdrawn from all social activities in anticipation that I will do so after my eptoin 100 is stopped. It is nasty pill.

The numbness started in my right leg. Just above the knee and into the foot. As time went by the same problem occured in my left leg and foot. One surgeon did a bypass on my right leg….no change. The next neurosurgeon said I have placque in both legs and suggested a bypass in one leg and Angio in the other. .After my Cardio doc saw the pre op results,he nixed the operation. I’m 78 yrs old. I can only walk aprox one block and I cramp up. I feel soon I wont walk at all. I’ve had heart bypass, atrial frib. I don’t want to give up, but it seems useless.
