Orthotics Will They Help????

(2 discussions)

I have been suffering with Piriformis Syndrom for 4 months and have been seening a Physical Therapist. She is recommending that I get fitted for Orthotics because I am pronating and she seems to feel that it will help with the Periformis Muscle and my lower back pain. Has anyone had Orthotics for this reason? Will they help the aching in my lower back? The MRI showed “degenerative disease”. I have not run in these 4 months since the pain started. I have been a runner for 20 years. Is it just time to stop running forever??? I would appreciate any input! Thanks

I waws diagnosed with PF 8 months ago but also before that had tired feelt and calves. Now the PF seems to be better having rested all winter but still have the pain around the heel base and down the side of outside of foot. Is this to do with fat pad – I have been waering custom made soft inner soles as have high arches but still can’t walk for longer than 20 mins without sitting down and get a burning feeling – sometimes the soles go red, and feel the skin is chapped though it isn’t!! Help – what should I do next – I used to hike alot and my job was on my feet but for the last 8 months have been confined to the house hobbling around,

    Hi,

The fact that you have not been running is probably part of the problem. Everything tends to tighten up, especially if you are used to running regularly.

In my opinion orthotics are helpful. You must get the foundations right for everything else to work properly. However they may help prevent the injury returning but you will still need to address the tight muscles through stretching and sports massage techniques.
