Osgood Schlatters and orthotics

(2 discussions)

My daughter has OSD and her coach said that he knows someone that found relief for the pain by getting orthotics.
I have been reading everything I can find on this subject and nothing has mentioned orthotics as treatment for OSD.
Have you ever or would you reccommend orthotics to treat OSD?

My son is 13 years old and was diagnosed with OS nearly 12 months ago. He was playing Aussie rules football and since that time has not played any sport. He has not ridden his bike or ran, has not been squating or jerking his legs, in all he has nursed the injury completely. It is severe in his right knee and to a lesser degree in his left knee. Massage aggravates it as does heat or cold. Is there some other treatment? He is a very active person who desperately wants to return to sport.Any advice would be appreciated.

I can not recall using orthotics specifically for Osgood Schlatter’s disease. That does not mean it is outside the realm of possibility. More often than not, a patient would see an orthopedist for this problem though.
