Osgood schlatters disease

(2 discussions)

i have had this for a few years now(im 17), and have only recently discovered what injury i actually have. I found a product called “OSCOM” (or OSCON) on the internet that apparently cures it, but i would like to know any other possible treatments for it before i try oscom.

Here’s my question. I had Osgood Schlatters in both knees in high school. I was told that I would grow out of it, and for the last few years (i’m 24) I had. Recently I started practicing Parkour, or Freerunning, and my right knee has become inflamed again. Basically, i’ve taken the last month off, and it still hurts. At my age, is it still Osgood Schlatters? What treatment can I do, while still practicing my sport? If it continues to hurt, will there be any long term consequences?
    Thanks for your replies…

    hi m8
i have just done a sports pherapy course and we covered osgood schlatters disease (tibial traction apophysitis)
this is the treatment we were told (as per book)
    initial ice to reduce pain
anti inflamatories may be prescribed by doctor (if severe)
following acute stage (3 days)local heat to promote blood flow & healing
discuss training load with person (cut down do more upper body)
keep a log book of what training makes worse.
    rest from training if severe.
static and dynamic quad stretches (look some up) swimming also is good (non weight bearing)
if it becomes so sever u made need to have the knee braced while it heals but this causes the quads to waste. (this is a last resort)
hope this helps anymore info neede email me.
