Hi! Does anyone know of any longterm effects of Osgood-Schlatters Disease, or consequence injuries that could come later in life from having this condition?

Hi guys, Just to say, I have had Osgood’s before when I was 12 (now 19). As a result I was in a great deal of pain because I tried to still do sport whilst having physio. Best things to do are ice it when it is painful, but no more than 15 mins at a time, 3 times a day or you may burn yourself (trust me-i’ve done that as well!) Make sure that any sport you do is non impact such as swimming or cycling. This kept me going and i still remained fairly fit. I now posess a large bump on my right leg below the knee cap. For me, the pain went after about a year.Hope this helps.

Osgood-Schlatter’s disease usually occurs to people in thier early teens because thier bones grow faster than thier tendons. In the case of this injury, the infrapatellar tendon begins to pull away from the patella, resulting in a painful lump on the front of the knee. However, this condition can be even more serious if it develops into an avusion fracture (a fracture in which part of the bone is pull away by a ligament or tendon). This condition is usually very slow to heal because of the fact that the body provides little blood flow to the area. As far as long term effects go, an individual may always have a lump that was formed when having this condition or reoccurent patellar tendonitis. In severe cases, surgery may be needed to correct this condition.

    I hope this helps!
