Osgood Schlatters or Jumpers knee

(2 discussions)

How do I tell the difference between Osgood Schlatters or Jumpers knee, as although the pain is quite central below the knee it is also felt on the medial side across from the attachment of the quad?

Thanks for replying. I was just a little confused due to the pain being slightly medial to the patella tendon.

    Osgood Schlatters disease

Bony protrusion below the knee (tibial tuberosity) becomes inflamed. The patella tendon inserts here and through overuse can become inflamed. It mainly affects boys aged 10 to 16 years old, can be managed and treated with rest and flexibility training.

    Symptoms?
“Characterised by tenderness and pain on the tibial tuberosity during and after exercise”.
Can be very painful to the touch especially post exercise.
Pain when contracting the quadriceps “against resistance”.

    Hope this helps
