Ostea-arthritic knee
(3 discussions)
Hi,
Following on from my previous post – ‘Stereotypical Knee Injury’. I went to see a private physio who diagnosed osteo-arthritis in my right knee. He said that this condition cannot be reversed but can be managed using anti-inflammatory medication (i’ve got Diclofenac) and by using a Glycozamene (spelling?) supplement to encourage tissue (cartilage) regrowth.
Does anyone have any extra information regarding this, especially with regard to training etc.
A friend of mine (a physical trainer) doesn’t think repeated/prolonged use of anti-inflammatories is good – better to use the Glycozamene to improve the joint.

The diagnosis was made based on the presence of a ‘bump’ on the in-side of the kneecap. The physio sees this as being bone-growth at the top of the shin-bone which has occurred due to the knee’s tendency to want to ‘sag’ forwards. Apparently this is symptomatic of osteo-arthritis. Is this the case or could a scan reveal something else? What else could it be?
I’ll wait until I’ve finished my course of anti-inflammatories and then seek out a Glucosamine supplement. Thanks for the advice!
Will I be able to regain any of the backwards flexibility of my knee through stretching and running excercises, or is it going to ‘sag’ for life?

glucosamine is excellent. use a high quality gluc.sulfate otherwise your body wont absorb it and youve wasted your $$. chondroitian sulfate only gets about 12% absorbtion, so dont even bother with that. MSM is proving to be good as well. (get a msm/glucsulfate mix). these are precussors to cartilage, so long term effects are possitive, where as long term effects of antiinflamatories are damaged kidneys and liver.
one thing to bewary of is how your physio diagnosed this, osteoarthritis is a radiologic diagnosis, so without xrays, it may not be completely accurate?? check with him if you didnt get any films taken.

I agree.
Glucosaime products have received some positive feedback from many people I have met.
