Overlapping Toes
(2 discussions)
HiMy small toe overlaps my fourth toe on my right foot. There is no friction or discomfort. I have had this problem since a very young age. My issue is from a cosmetic/ appearance aspect. I would like to know if by wearing gel inserts or toe partitioners and if this would fix the problem. I would imagine that it would take many months. If so, what products would you strongly advise.
I would greatly appreciate your insight and knowledge on the matter. Thanks in advanceRob

It is unlikely that any insert or appliance will straighten out your overlapping toe. This is usually a congenital problem and in men is often not as symptomatic as in women for reasons having to do with shoe fitting.

: Hi Dr Vivian: My second toe on my right foot was always longer than my big toe and now overlaps it to a significant extent. It looks weird and is a real problem when I have to wear shoes (even wide ones) The second joint is also quite swollen. I have tried various ways of restraining/retraining the toe over the years, but it always flips back over the big toe. What is involved in surgery to correct this problem?
