bruised metatarsal area/sprained ankle

I fell down the stairs a few days ago and there is now significant bruising around my ankle and on the underside of my foot in the metatarsal area. I am unable to support my full weight on the front of my foot. Is there a possibility of a stress fracture from the impact of my fall?

On May 16th broke the fifth metatarsal (jones)

I broke my fifth metatarsal on May 16th.
On May 19th I was put in a boot told to stay off it, and get a wheelchair.
I follow the directions then in June they casted it and because it was a little out of alignment did not do anything. In July another cast was put on, and was taken off on July 31st.
Then they told me to wear the boot until September 28th.
I am to put my shoe on and go up on my toes three times a day doing fifty each time.
I think this is really along time, and would like to verify that the orthopedic is handling this right?
Four and a half months seems like a long time. Please reply at my e-mail address.
Thank you, Susie Hoffman

Calf injury, can treatment or time be best?

Male at 54 recieved my first sports injury. Since Feb. 1st, I’ve been power walking 40-60 minutes 5 days a week to get into shape. Fealing good, three weeks ago, I added weekly tennis drills at the club. Feeling fine this a.m. I did my ample pre-stretching and hit the courts. Fifteen minutes later, as I was moving forward to my right, a sharp pain latched on to my left legs calf muscle right down the rear center spanning six inches from just below the knees’ back. There is no discoloration in the area and the calf is slightly puffed-up.After 4 hours of giving the calf the RICE treatment, there is still the same level of pain when trying to walk forward — much less when walking sideways where the left leg sweeps across my body’s front. I guess it’s a minor tear or pulled. Besides staying off my feet until healed, is there anything I could do to speed its recovery and get back into walking or Tennis sooner?

Knee meniscus tear

(3 discussions)

Hi, I usually play squash (similar to racketball for those unfamiliar) and I tore my exterior meniscus, I have seen my orthopedist and he has recomended to have a surgical procedure to repair the tear, the time for recovery without driving (workling) would be too costly for me, does anyone have any experience with this type of injury? are thee any other options? Thanks!

How long is bruising/swelling supposed to last?

(2 discussions)

I broke my fifth metatarsal bone (non-Jones) two weeks ago. The doctor put me in a hard boot and said to come back in five weeks. Although I am now able to put some weight on my foot, it is still quite bruised (all the way down the top of the foot and around the side) and swollen (including my toes). The skin is tight and hot to the touch.
Is this normal? I have been unable to find any estimates on the length of time for bruising/swelling dissipation.
Thank you for any information on healing times you might have.

Planter’s wart

My son has had a planter’s wart burned off twice.
This last time hurt much worse than the first.
His wart has been very dry this time.
He’s commented that the bottom of his foot is itchy.
Is this a sign that his wart is drying out & going away or what??

Post-broken ankle swelling

I had a cast on for 6 weeks when it was finally removed on May 31st.
The Doctor said that it would be sore and swollen (and that it was healed enough that it wouldn’t need another cast).
He also said I developed osteoporosis in the injured area.
Its been over 2 weeks since the cast removal and my ankle/foot is still swollen.
The size of the swollen areas vary throughout the day.
Advil seems to help with any pain.
I had been using cane to get around, but I’ve been walking without its assistance for about 5 days now (a sign that it could be getting better).
Should I be concerned about the swelling?
I am currently on vacation until the end of July, so I won’t be able to visit the doctor.
He also didn’t mention any need for rehab or medicine, or any followups.
