BICEP INJURY……TEAR???

I have questioning regarding a recent injury while playing basketball.
The injury to my right arm happened while trying to force a fast underhand shot and was met by another player with even greater force square on the ball causing my arm to be forced down while my bicep and the rest of my body continued upward.
Immediate pain but I have done a similar thing in the past, shook it off and continued with no further problems besides soreness for a short time. ( I”m 41 now ) Stopped playing, went home used ice and ibuprofen for a couple of days. Certain movements sent shooting pain up my arm and other times it didn’t’ hurt at all. Any twising of the hand was painful in a motion putting pressure also on the upper arm. Turning a can opener was painful.
Week later… almost back to normal.
Went rollerblading on a the strand, slipped while hardly goiing anywher, put my hands out… had wrist guard on. Broke my fall on my hands and arm just exploded with pain.
Same place but 10x more pain than originally.
Same..ice, ibu, 4 days dark bruiles on the inside forearm and and even darker one above inside elbow below forearm.
Swelling for almost 2 weeks. Now, while no pain or loss of mobility my right bicep does not flex fully to top of arm like left arm when flexed in classic bicep flex.
There is also a “knot” where bruising primarily occured. From my conversations with others that unfortunately sounds to me like it may point to a tear of sorts. Ligament, tendon, musclel I don’t know.
I’d like your opinion about what this injury may have done, what steps are necessary to correct this and what I should do or avoid doing in the future.
Your opinion is greatly appreciated…. Lenny Garifo [email protected]

Functional versus Osseous Forefoot Varus

(2 discussions)

Do X-rays show osseous forefoot varus?
Is this how one distinguishes between osseous and functional forefoot varus (also referred to as forefoot supinatus deformity)? I went to a podiatrist who said I had forefoot varus. I went to an orthopedic surgeon who said that he saw no evidence of forefoot varus in the X-Rays.
I see on the web that if you are given orthotics for osseous forefoot varus, which I was, but have functional forefoot varus, damage is done to the first metatarsophalangeal joint.

5th Metatarsal Fracture

One week ago, I fell from an ottoman in my house and suffered a 5th metatarsal fracture. I was seen by a family practioner in a clinic who xrayed my right foot and confirmed the fracture. It is sort of midshaft and a spiral fracture. I had tremendous swelling and bruising to my toes, and alot of bruising to my second and third toes on that foot as well as the actual fracture area on the dorsal lateral aspect. I was placed in an ace wrap and a ortho shoe. I was told to not bear weight to the foot for three or four days and come back for addtional xrays in three weeks. I am still having alot of swelling if my foot is not elevated constantly, and I am having alot of pain also on the dorsal surface although it is over the 1st metatarsal, not the 5th. I am a nurse and did not see on xray any evidence of a fracture to anything but the 5th metatarsal, but the other area is reddened about the size of a half dollar and is actually causing more discomfort than the actual fracture site. Is this normal with this type of fracture? Also, I am not placing weight on the foot, because I have always understood that these types of fractures required a nonweightbearing cast for about 6 weeks. Do you think I should seek evaluation by an ortho guy?
Thanks,Rusty
