Pain at back of leg behind the knee

(2 discussions)

I am a bodybuilder and whilst squatting got a sharp pain around my knee area, but mainly behind. There was no swelling, but I have noticed occasionally my leg feels like it is about to give from under me. It hurts a little when I do leg extensions, particularly at the front of the knee towards the inside, however when I do leg curls there is no pain! I have had to significantly reduce my poundages when squatting although I can still fell pain, only on the downward movement. Has anyone out there got any advice as to what it may be, and the best way to recuperate??

First of all Leg extension machines are brutal on your knees, they cause excessive compression of your patella in the patellar groove, you’d be better off doing a “closed kinetic chain exci” like doing wall squats or leg press but make sure you don’t go beyond 90degree flexion (begin with quarter squats)…proper technique is key….
As for not having pain doing the leg curls that’s because the hamstrings muscle attachments are located on the posterior tibia and not the patella unlike the quadriceps…

Frome the info you’ve given sounds like you may have Chondromalacia or patellar femoral syndrome.

    Hope this helps…

Pain behind the knee I associate with damage to lower back.
Do get it checked! Dont do squats!
    Al the best.
