Pain in top of ankle, bottom of shin after rugby

Whilst playing rugby on Saturday I felt no pain but as i cooled down over the next few hours my upper ankle/lower shin became quite tender

I did the usual icing thing but now am just wondering what could be wrong and what action i should/shouldn’t take

It was my first game back after the closed season so that might have had something to do with my susceptability to an injury

The pain i am feeling is about 4 inches abover the bone on the outside of my ankle and roughly equidistant between the front and outside of my ankle (hope that makes sense)

The pain is low when sitting at rest, moderate to the touch and is most severe when im up on the ball of my left foot leaning in 9 o’clock direction

Any information would be GREATLY appreciated as I have training tomorrow and thursday and need to know whether strapping would be a sufficient fix for then

Cheers

Jon
