Pain on side of foot, tendonitis?

I 50 yrs old and still play basketball and racquetball 3 to 5 times a week. Recently, I have been experiencing pain on the outside of my left foot. When I plant my foot to jump, or to change direction, I have pain. I have looked at foot diagrams, and seems that the pain is occurring in the peroneus tetius tendon. At one point, while playing racquetball a few weeks ago, I felt a pop in the area, although it seemed to be at the bottom or under the foot.
I would appreciate any suggestions for rehabilitating the area.

If you have a peronius tertius (many people don’t) it could be that or any of the other tendons in that region of your foot. All these attach under the foot so that you felt something under your foot is not surprising.

I would recommend, since you felt a pop, that you get yourself examined by a doc to determine what exactly your injury is since what you’ll do for it will depend on exactly what happened.

In the mean time, ice frequently to reduce inflammation and avoid any painful motions until you get clearance from the doc to return to sport. Ignoring pain will only make your situation worse and take longer to return to full ability.

    Good luck,
