painful heels in both feet

(5 discussions)

Please try to help me find out this problem. I have been to a podiatrist and had xrays done. He could not find the problem. My heel started hurting very bad about 9 months ago. Now I have the same problem in the other heel. I don’t know what kind of doctor to see now. I thought a foot doctor was the one, but I was wrong. It is extremely painful and walking sometimes hurts bad. Getting up in the morning is troublesome. I am 40 years old. This problem came on acutely. Thank you.

I’ve had the same problem for two months. Haven’t seen the Doc, hoped it would wear off. Have you had any solution to your problem?

I have the same problem. I went to my doctor who told me it was a tendon problem and that it should get better. At that point in was only in my right heel. The doctor told me within a few weeks my left heel would start hurting, and it did. So for me it’s a form of tendonitus (is that how you spell it?) she also told me I can have an injection which should sort the problem out, she also recommended heels pads. Thought I would give the heel pads a try first then move onto the injection. I have been looking at a few sites regarding heel problems and on one it said “Runners and athletes often develop heel pain, but painful heels can happen to anybody. It happens to people who tend to be on their feet and are more active than average, but who insist on wearing shoes that don’t provide enough cushioning. The first symptom is discomfort in the heel when you put pressure on your feet, but that discomfort eases as you go throughout the day.” My discomfort doesnt ease unless I keep of my feet for a few days.

HiI am currently suffering my second session of painful heals in two years. I don’t use my GP for this as they nearly always want to give you a cortezone injection, which will take away the majority of the pain but it can have bod side effects. I have regular sessions with a chiropractor and the dvice given to me works and is reletively painless and costs nothing. It appears that the problem start through not having enough padding under the foot (in my case it was summer sandals that caused it, cheap ones) What you have to do is try to stay off the feet as much as possible, preferably with the feet raised, and starting immediately put you heals on a bag of frozen peas or something like that with a very thing cloth covering over the bag so that you don’t get freezer burn. This should be done for 20 minutes every hour for about a week and then less and less until the problem is cured. Believe me it works and I am on ice treatments at the moment every hour or so for 20 min. The cold temperature brings edditional blood to the site and this obviously contains healing properties that gradualy sort out the problem. And throw away the cheap shoes.
I takes around 1 -2 weeks before the pain is gone.
